Elected officials expanding COVID-19 testing and vaccine outreach

New York City Council Member Rafael Salamanca announced his office will begin offering free, rapid mobile COVID-19 testing at his office on Southern Boulevard starting Friday, February 26.

Appointments are not required to receive the rapid test, with results available in 15 minutes. A physical, printed copy of the results will be provided, as well. Participants do not need to have insurance for this service.

A van parked outside his office at 1070 Southern Boulevard will also be offering the tests.  Both sites also will offer regular COVID-19 testing, which provides results in roughly 24-48 hours.

The van will be open from 8:00 am-7:00pm. Salamanca says he hopes to provide this service every Friday for the foreseeable future.

Other elected officials are reaching out to assist the community with COVID-19 services, including New York State State Senator Luis Sepulveda, whose office is compiling a wait list for eligible Bronx residents ready to receive the vaccine if appointments become available. Connecting with local health care organization, the list serves as a tool to help locate people who want the vaccine when there are excess appointments.

The form can be found here for any interested Bronxites.
