New food buying club launched

A new venture centered in Hunts Point is asking local residents to sign up so they can buy nutritious food at low cost.

The South Bronx Mobile Market is now registering members for a new food buying club that vows to bring fresh, healthy food to the neighborhood at affordable prices. After the group buys the food in bulk from upstate farms at wholesale prices, registered members will be eligible to receive:

* 4-6 local produce items from Corbin Hill Farm, Sky Vegetables and Wholeshare
* Diary (eggs, milk, cheese)
* Rice
* Beans
* 1-2 added value items (bread, crackers, sauces, oils, butter)

Registration costs $30.

The group’s first delivery date is scheduled to take place on January 27. Debit cards and SNAP/EBT benefits are accepted.

Residents interested in joining can register online using their debit/credit card. Email the BLK ProjeK at for more information. SNAP users should call 718-635-0951 to register.
